Southport String Ensemble was formed by Sarah Marks in 1995 to bring her pupils together to play classical and folk music.
Formally a viola player with the RLPO, Sarah is the fiddle player/caller from the Ceilidh band, Gallimaufry who regularly lead the Burns Night Ceilidhs at St George’s Hall.
Southport Strings perform regularly at events in Southport, Merseyside and West Lancs. They have strong links with a similar group in Helsinki, Finland and have travelled to Finland twice performing together. The Finns have also visited Southport, Liverpool and The Lake District and performed with SSE.
Southport Strings have also performed at the Fylde Folk Festival and Scotts Fiddle Festival in Edinburgh.
The group regularly tour into Europe.
