The York Concert Band is a thriving ensemble and is a full concert band with brass, woodwind and percussion sections. The band was formed in 1992 by Mick Reeder, to fill a musical gap in the city. It held its first rehearsal in July 1992 with 11 players and has gone from strength to strength with now almost 60 players.

A recent programme included: Dambusters March, Seventy Six Trombones, Handel’s The Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba, an arrangement of Michael Jackson songs, Adele’s theme music from the James Bond film Skyfall, a selection from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar, Czardas by Nicholas Monti, featuring the band’s clarinet section and Wonderful World, featuring solo trumpet.

York Concert Band is proud of its varied and entertaining repertoire and under the direction of band conductor, Sue Sykes, the band plays locally in beautiful North Yorkshire venues such as Valley Gardens, Harrogate and Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington as well as concerts further afield in Kendall, London, and many international trips, performing in and around La Spezia and Lake Garda in Italy and in at the Eiffel Tower and Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris.
